Discussion Thread: A Christian Look: Self-Defense/Defense of Others We are often reminded to “turn the other cheek” when someone does something offensive or harmful to us. However, do Jesus’ teachings from the Gospel of Matthew 5:39, and the rest of the Bible, suggest that we should not defend ourselves, or others, when necessary?
Discuss the Bible’s teaching on self-defense and the Christian’s responsibility, if one exists, to defend him or herself and others, including family members. If you determine that the Bible forbids self-defense, is there a limit to how much injury an aggressor should be allowed to inflict?
