Using lecture slides: using and citing class lectures and its content to build the arguments, and citing the facts you took from those like: (lecture x, slide x). Its important to focus on the content of them on the essay since it is what we talked about in class most and learned from. I will attach the lectures that touch on the books we are analysing.

Closer reading/analysis & quotes: Get quotes/evidence, and when argumenting and using evidence some times instead of citing you can do like a close reading. Like for example (im just saying whatever here) if you are talking about how in Corinne’s book you can see that women’s roles are more expressive and men dont like it and you are putting evidence instead of putting only the page you got it from, you can put a short quote direct from the book that shows it, like if in a scene Lord Oswald Nelvil is critizising Corinne you can literally put a quote where he says it and explain how your point is seen directly in the book. and close read that moment or scene or quote. like what i mean is not only talking in general what the books are about but being specific with the arguments and points and moments and having some quotes.

Focus on assigned sections: my last edit pointer is to yes talk about the readings in general, but also make sure that with what  said before to do some “close reading analysis”. and to do it specially in the sections the teacher says! so those are: Ovid’s Art of Love Book 1 and Staël’s Corinne Book 3 (all) and Book 4 (chapters 1 and 4 only). Make sure the majority of the quotes or evidence or citation you get for the essay is from those assigned sections!

Final Paper Instructions:

The Final Paper will be a 5-page, double-spaced essay (1500-1700 words) in which you perform a comparative analysis of a theme in Ovid’s The Art of Love (Book 1) and Madame de Staël’s Corinne, or Italy (Book 3 and Book 4, Ch. 1 & 4). You will choose which theme you want to analyze, and you will develop your own argument about that theme, but your supporting evidence MUST come from the book sectionslisted above. The Final Paper should be written inTimes New Roman 12-point font.
When quoting from books we’ve read this quarter, please use a simple in-text parenthetical citation. For example: (Ovid, 90). When paraphrasing something from lectures, please use the following format: (Lecture 2, Slide 3). You MUST include a short Works-Cited Page at the end of your essay.

Proofread your paper! Read it out loud: that’s a great way to catch errors in spelling and grammar!
Any evidence that you have collaborated with other students, copied material from the internet, used artificial intelligence, will result in a FAILING GRADE on this assignment. The Final Paper must be your own original work.
