What is your take on Whitfield’s appointment; is it better to have an insider with limited experience in high-level university administration as the President of UNLV or is it better to get a seasoned University leader from outside UNLV?

Write a one to two page response answering the following questions:

1. Table 1.2 in The Art of Leadership lists a number of personality traits of charismatics, does President Whitfield demonstrate any of these? Which ones and how/why do you think so?

2. When discussing his transition from Provost at Wayne State to President at UNLV, both Whitfield and SUNY Chancellor Emeritus Nancy Zimpher (the other person in the video) mention how quick the transition was. This conversation occurs from about minute 9-12. Is it appropriate to jump so quickly from such and important role at Wayne State to the top position at UNLV? Or, as Zimpher suggests, should Whitfield have taken two months off to rest and prepare?
